To You

I Knew We Were Over When I Was Not Invited

I learned you were getting married from social media.

For a moment, I thought the invitation had been lost. Then I saw the photos of people we both knew and understood.

We had already ended. I was simply the last person to know.

I replayed every conversation, looking for the moment I became someone you no longer wanted in the room. Maybe there was no single moment.

I wish you had told me directly. I wish our years of friendship had earned one honest sentence.

Still, I hope the day was beautiful.

I am letting the absence of an invitation become the answer you could not say.
