I miss me
It's been so long since I felt like “me”. It’s like I don’t recognize who I see in the mirror. I used to be fearless, unafraid to step into the unknown. I miss me. The old me, the one full of joy and wonder. That childlike spirit who saw hope in everything and approached each day with wide-eyed excitement.
I picture now that me who danced through life with a carefree spirit. My laughter rang out like a song in the night. I had fire in my eyes and a grin that could light up the darkest room. I was free.
Somewhere along the way, I lost myself. Yet here I am, trapped in this cage of responsibilities and expectations. I feel like I'm suffocating, drowning in a sea of "should" and "oughts." Between adult responsibilities, disillusionment, and just the wear and tear of life, that bright-eyed girl got buried. Now I feel like a lost child, wandering through the halls of who I've become, searching for my old self.
Wasn’t I that girl who held the world in her hands, who knew she could be anything? The one whose boldness has never been broken, and who had a heart full of hope that could eclipse the sun. A girl, a “me” who shone with light and joy. I closed my eyes and tried to recall “me” again. The fearless girl who saw the beauty in everything.
But she's gone now. Faded. And I walk around with this dull ache, this nagging sense that I'm far from who I used to be…I miss me.
